A wedding brought us to Stowe, but it was Mary’s hospitality and kind soul that showed us what Vermont has to offer. We really enjoyed ourselves. Thank you, Mary, for opening your home up to us and for the restful place to lay our heads at night.

Thank you so much for your hospitality to us. Your suggestions for sightseeing and eating and shopping were great. We loved the area, and your brother’s art gallery.  Thanks for including me in your living room. You made our stay so enjoyable and homey. We felt as if we were with relatives.

Joyce and Chuck, MN

Mary, you’re the perfect hostess/innkeeper. We enjoyed your warm hospitality, hearing about all the things we could do in and around Stowe, and knowing we were in your childhood home. We were so lucky to have sun, despite the poor weather forecast, so we could climb, bike, and enjoy Stowe.  Hopefully we can come back again to do the many things we missed.

We are very thankful to Mrs. Mary who contributed much in having an unforgetable visit in Stowe. From the minute we arrived at her home we felt as locals. She spoiled us with everything- her delicious breafasts and guided us to the most beautiful places in Stowe. The bed is excellent and she treated us as family.

I have always wanted to experience living in New England, and I finally have it at Hobble Inn! Thank you for the great food, wine, and chat. Cozy room and beautiful bathroom. Such a wonderful place to stay. Looking forward to my next stay here at my New England “Home”!

A true home away from  home.  Our only regret is not being able to stay longer. Amazing breakfast, a snooze-forever bed, and lovely home. Thank you, Mary.

We had a lovely time at the Hobble Inn!! What a beautiful house, and Mary, you are a wonderful host. Really hope to come back again and stay longer!

If you want to meet an exemplary American, Mary Skelton is certainly one. If you want an expemplary house for a stay, hers is it. We’ve been to hundreds of B&B homes, and hers tops the list, with all the fanciest mansions trailing far behind.

Annie and Mike, Hong Kong

Thank you so much for hosting! We enjoyed it much and wish you all the best.

Arn and Sal, Switzerland

What a wonderful experience! It was like coming home. The bed was soooo comfortable and the breakfast was customized to our tastes. We hope to be able to return sometime. This was our first stay at a B&B, and certainly found it a special experience. Much more a personal experience than a hotel or motel.

Mary! I’m almost ready to back to Barcelona! I’m missing your breakfast and your warm house. It was great to meet you and the quiet Stowe too. Thank you for made me feel at home!

Mary, so great to stay at Hobble Inn again this summer!! Your hospitality and delicious breakfasts–loved the homemade jams!–made our stay so comfortable. It is very sweet to walk into the village and experience the restaurants, mountain trail, and walking trail all within a stone’s throw of your door. Can’t wait to see you during foliage season.

Amy Ipswich, MA

Hi, Amy – Thank you for your kind comments! I loved having you all here- eager to see you again in the Fall… I’ll try to save some foliage for you!

So enjoyed staying in this sweet historical home! Mary’s knowledge of Vermont history and love of Stowe is contagious! A little piece of paradise in the mountains! The home and Mary’s cooking and her attention to detail make this a “must stay” and place to be in Stowe. Thanks, Mary for being truly the hostess with the mostness! Love you!!!!

The best B and B in Vermont !! You won’t be disappointed with your stay at Hobble Inn and the fantastic breakfast you’ll receive every morning. Don’t expect the boring eggs and potatoes but Mary’s own waffle French toast !! 👍

Thanks, Greg. I always enjoy our visits.

Another example from the “Small World” department —– My B&B guests today have so much in common with me — Susie went to Wheelock College in Boston the same time I was there, their youngest son is the same age, and has the same name (Andrew) as mine, AND, they currently live in Bradenton, Florida, a few miles from where my family had a condo for decades!

Absolutely wonderful accommodation and a fantastic hostess. Mary makes you feel part of the household. I’ve been traveling for 8 weeks and this is the most memorable stay I have had. And by far the best breakfast anywhere! Thank you Mary

We really enjoyed our stay at The Hobble Inn. We loved meeting Mary and learning about Stowe and the family history with her house. She makes you feel right at home. Mary has a lovely touch for decorating and has put careful thought into the little touches. Water, chocolates, and extra towels were waiting for us in the bedroom. Seating on the porch included bug spray (didn’t need) and a blanket with the wicker seating. We felt spoiled as she made a hearty breakfast each morning including her delicious French toast waffles, sausage and bacon, and cheese and spinach omelets. Thank you Mary, for the advice about various attractions in the area!

If you’re looking for a quaint, relaxing B&B in a true old-time Vermont atmosphere, this is it (speaking as a born & raised Vermonter myself). The house is an old-style home built around 1865. It has a modern kitchen (where a wonderful breakfast is served), ample common space for reading or surfing, and comfortable sleeping arrangements. We stayed in the upstairs bedroom, which has a private bath located a few steps down the hall, and slept absolutely wonderfully partly due to the complete absence of any noise.

We found the home to be clean and well-kept and the proprietor to be friendly and available. She fulfilled all of our requests and had breakfast ready at a time or our choosing.

The B&B is located near the center of Stowe and is an easy walk to the historic district do some shopping, sightseeing (there is a pedestrian covered bridge nearby) as well as shopping or to enjoy dinner at one of the several locally-owned restaurants.

We can’t wait for our next trip!

Mike Curtis

Mary, I heard your name and your voice on VPR this morning, and was so happy to think of you. Dave and I still recount being welcomed to Village Green by your venison lasagna and peach pie! We are still there, though nearly everyone else has turned over. I hope that all is well with you and your family. If we are ever to stay in Stowe, or send others there, now I know where we’ll go!
